Snowing...

Got up this morning and there was snow on the ground!! What a surprise! We've been having warmer temps lately, almost springlike...and so seeing snow was a huge surprise...at least for me!! I guess it's normal for there to be snow in March.

My serenity has been tested in the last few days. I"m trying really hard to give everything to God...to say the serenity prayer and REALLY mean it! It's tough. Between forgetting to take my meds last weekend....having lots of bills....my car going on the blink....and some friendship potholes...I feel like I could kick something! I just keep going though. I wish I could find the AA meeting in Cortez...I would go...I swear I need a meeting, and I haven't been going to the ones in Mancos. My fault...but there is only two.  Why don't you call your sponsor, Jeanne??

Oh...and my self-esteem was tested as well! Was told that the music group I was in didn't 'need' a keyboard player anymore. Now, I understand that...and I don't have any hard feelings about that. It's very possible that they don't need a keyboard player....but it's the way they did it that kind of pissed me off. I mean, what if I had really had my heart set on playing in the group? It was pretty much a volunteer thing....we were seeing how we sound together...and I didn't think it was a matter of 'needing' a certain instrument. But...oh well. I didn't think I could devote the necessary time to what they were doing anyway. It's for the best. It just stung at the time.

Really really enjoyed the hike that I had in Hovenweep National Monument last week!! I want to continue to do things like that...hike in and among the ruins in this area. I think there is so much to see around here, that I doubt that I'll run out of places to go! They are peaceful....quiet...spiritual....I love being there...

It's a privilege to live in Colorado...

From pencil to porch...

I often wonder about the whole gamut of tasks that go into producing a  newspaper. The carrier's job is just the end of the line, getting it into the hands of the reader. But where did it start? what steps did it take? How long was that paper in the making?

As a reporter, I know that much of it starts right here at the typewriter. But within the newpaper office, there is the newsroom, the advertising department, the classified department, and the business office. These all work together, sort of at the same time, to put together the end result that the readers have in their hands at the breakfast table, or in their evening easy chair.

the managing editor, along with the lifestyles editor, city editor, business editor, sports editor, and whatever other editor might be on the desk, decides what news is available on that day, what should be on the front page, what photos need to be included, and then where everything goes in the paper. He/she will normally be working at least one to five days ahead, as well as planning special inserts, sections, or publications later in the year.  The editors can delegate stories, photos, and assignments to the various other editors and/or reporters, making suggestions about what to consider, where to look and what to write.

It's vital to the newspaper industry to stay as current with the news as possible. The editor will check the Associated Press or other news wire, see what the big news of the day is, and perhaps choose to center the front page around it. Smaller papers will try to include as much local news on the front to appeal to the local readers.....
